Renovation of 'la verniere', Catus

La vernière is fondly remembered by many of the older folk of Catus as a popular gathering place for the inhabitants of the village, young and old. 

A slope, later replaced by steps, led down to the stream at the bottom of the weir where children could splash about, ladies do their washing, men fish and animals water.

La vernière has undergone some major renovation works over the past year. This included removing some old tree trunks, buidling a new stone wall with reinforcement against the rush of the water at the bottom of the weir and steps leading down to the stream.

Space has been allocated for planting flowers and la vernière will once again be a focal gathering point for people of the village and our visitors.

Remembrance Day in Catus

Remembrance Day was celebrated with a ceremony by the war memorial attended by a large number of villagers. In France, the signing of the armistice ending hostilties of the First World War in 1918 on the "11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month" is usually referred to as le jour de l'Armistice or le jour du Souvenir. As one of the most important military celebrations in France it is a national holiday and since 2012 the occasion is also used to honour those who gave their lives for France. In France the blue cornflower (Bluet de France) is used symbolically rather than the poppy.

Concert, 4 August 2013

A classical concert was held in the Church of Saint-Astier, Catus, on Sunday 4 August. The performance was by Sonia Sempéré (soprano), Helen Linden (cello) and Emmanuel Pelaprat (piano).

A selection of romantic music by Gounod, Fauré, Chausson, Godard and others was enjoyed by well over 100 people in the audience.

The concert was organised by the Association de Sauvegard des Monuments et Sites, Catus

Bal sous la Halle - Catus

On Thursday 4 July the village was entertained by traditional French music and dancing. The music was provided by students of traditional music and their teachers at the Conservatoire of Music in Cahors.
